London United won their first game in the British Basketball League after a massive fourth quarter resulted in the 79-81 defeat of the DMU Leicester Riders.

The Riders, who have not won their opening fixture since 1995, led for the majority of the game, and that peaked at 73-52 at the end of the third quarter after Andrew Alleyne scored 5 and Yorick Williams netted 4 points in an 11-0 run.

However, Phillip Perre scored 15 points in the fourth period whilst United outscored their opponents 29-6. Down the stretch, a Delme Herriman turnover led to a Perre score for 79-78, former Rider Marcus Knight tied the game shortly afterwards after making one free-throw. As the Riders tried to run the clock down, Junior Williams stole the ball from Terrence McGee and London called a time-out. From that Perre missed a shot and then gathered his own rebound to score and give his team the lead with 3 seconds remaining. McGee shot from three for the win but saw the ball rim out on the buzzer.

The Riders committed 14 turnovers in the final stanza, 33 in total. Perre led all scorers with 30 points, whilst Bryant Feggins netted 20 for the side from the capital. For the hosts, Alleyne made 25 points and 13 rebounds.
