London United have added emerging British stars, Phillip Perre, Perry Lawson, Junior Williams and Marcus Knight to the BBL roster. Also added to the squad is ex-Westminster Warriors guard, Kaleston Wood who is another young emerging talent, along with Albert Mudai, a youth product of Tony Garbelotto's work at Hackney. Jacek Jagodka returns to LU, and Leon Bernard has also joined the club.
Perre brings a BBL Championship winners medal from Brighton Bears and experience from the Scottish Rocks and Milonas in Greece. Junior Williams, who for some time now has been touted as one of the truest english point-guards in the BBL, also brings valuable experience, and re-joins LU after a spell last season at MK Lions. Junior is a hugely experienced guard with international experience and will lead our team from the guard spot. He has great court awareness and has proven ability to perform at the BBL level.
Marcus Knight joins the club from the Leicester Riders, and will bring dynamicism to the LU backcourt, and will link up with ex-Hackney guard, Perry Lawson. Marcus brings great intensity to the team with the ability to score and play defence. He has great heart and is a great hustler and will give us more British talent to work with.
Lawson joins what will be a youthful and energetic backcourt, and Perry is a great acquisition for the club. He brings great defensive intensity to the floor especially at the defensive end - he did exceptionally well in Newcastle, and we are very pleased to have him with us.
Jack Majewski says of the recent signings - “I'm particularly delighted that we could sign Philip Perre. Obviously there is an emotional side of that. He was one of the first outstanding talents which I worked with after my arrival to this country, and we spent endless hours together touring European best junior tournaments, where Philip was usually the star. But there is also professional side of that transfer. Phillip is a person with evangelical drive for success in sport. He is a driven overachiever, focus of attention who is not afraid of any challenges. That personifies the attitudes of our club. We have initially signed Phil on week to week basis and we have to work very hard to be able to secure finances to make his move permanent and hope there will be no big European club which comes with offer which Phil can not refuse.”
Head Coach Tony Garbelotto comments on Junior Williams and Marcus Knight - "In these two players we have secured the services of two of the best young guards in the country. I have always felt that Junior is one of the top point guards around and he has the ability to make big plays. Marcus is a tremendous scorer and has great defensive abilities which I hope will flourish within our system. Having both of these guys will really help us be competitive in this league."
