The Springfield Honda Newcastle Eagles moved up into third place in the BBL Championship after a resounding 89-68 defeat of London United at the MetroRadio Arena, notching their seventh consecutive win in the process.

After a tight first quarter, the reigning BBL Champions dominated the second stanza. They restricted United to just 7 points, whilst pouring in 30 at the other end to take a 51-26 lead into the locker rooms. The damage was done with 19 unanswered points to open the second as the visitors failed to score in the opening 8:00 minutes.

The lead was extended throughout the third period. A 16-8 burst fresh from the break pushed the lead out to its peak at 67-34, which became 73-42 by the end of the quarter.

The lead was never threatened, although United made a go of it with 10 consecutive points late in the game to narrow the deficit to 87-64.

The Eagles were led by high-scoring rookie Shawan Robinson's 15 points, which was matched by point guard TJ Walker (pictured). British big-man Darius Defoe was just behind on 13. It was Tarick Johnson who led all scorers with 23 points.
