It was heartache for London United on friday night, as they failed to beat the Leicester Riders by 8 points to qualify ahead of the Riders as BBL Trophy group winners. London United on the good side, did pick up an 78-77 victory over the DMU Leicester Riders, but it was enough to seal qualification.

The home side started the stronger, and the succession of four three-pointers gave them an early 24-15 lead in the opening period. The second quarter saw London maintain their advantage and lead 42-31 at the half.

The second half saw the Riders trim the deficit back to four points at 49-45 off the back of a 7-0 burst, before a Terrence McGee three-pointer at the end of the third for the Riders tied the game at 54-54. The final quarter saw both sides trading baskets, before Tarick Johnson won the game for London with a basket 38 seconds from time.

Terrence McGee led the Riders scoring with 20 points, but it was Marlin Capers who led all scorers in the game with 29 points for London.
